BYU and the state of Utah are in need of certified track and field officials!

In conjunction with the USATF/Utah Track and Field Officials we are hosting a Certification Clinic for new and recertifying officials on Thursday evening, January 16th.  At BYU, each year we host one cross country meet, two indoor track meets, and four outdoor track meets.  Every few years there are opportunities to work championship meets that we host.  BYU typically hosts the state high school meet each year.  This year, 2014, UVU is hosting the 2014 Western Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships.  In 2011, BYU hosted the NCAA Mountain Region Cross Country Championships at East Bay Golf Course.  In 2009 we hosted the Mountain West Conference Cross Country Championship.  We hosted the NCAA West Region Track and Field Championships in 2006.  Great meets do not happen without capable officials.  It would be great to have additional officials to assist with hosting our meets.  Between BYU and UVU, there are a lot of meets that need officials. There are a large number of high school meets in the area that always need officials.  There are many opportunities to officiate and serve.

What is available?
- Prospective officials can become certified,
- Returning officials can become recertified,
- Experienced officials will be assigned as a mentor to a new official or to an official that would like to expand their areas of expertise to a new area.
This is also a chance to share experiences and get to know other officials in the area.

What is needed?
This is an excellent opportunity to become certified.  Everyone is grouped together to review the rules and take the open-book test, making the collaborative process very easy and a lot of fun.  Either renew your USATF membership or become a member of USATF.  If you have a current membership number when you arrive at the clinic, we will be able to process all of your certification!

Cost?
There are two expenses for track and field officials.  Dues are $15.  In addition, insurance is provided by the required membership in USA Track and Field, which is $30.

Benefits?
Officials receive a stipend for most meets that they work at BYU, making it easy to recoup the cost of certification and then some.

Reserve your place.
